Mini Pool is Very Risky for Toddlers

[Health knowledge] Mini pool is very risky for toddlers. The parents should be more vigilant and strict monitoring of their children when uses mini-sized swimming pool. Studies in the United States shows, the number of cases of children who drowned due to play in this pool can not be taken lightly.

A research report published the journal Pediatrics says, at least one child in every five days immersed in the swimming pool during the period 2001 to 2009, especially during the summer.

During this period, the research reported that there were 209 children who died under water, and 35 other non-fatal cases in children aged 11 or below.

The case of a submerged under five has increased in 2001 to 2005, although then declined in subsequent years.

"Parents should be aware that these pools pose drowning risk, especially for children, as well as a large pond that had indeed considered the most dangerous," said Gary Smith, research leader who is also Head of Research

Injuries at the National Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.
Almost all cases of drowning, say researchers, among children aged under 5 years old, and occurred in places they play during the summer.

Although this research does not encourage parents to avoid the use of a mini pool, Smith expects the parents to increase vigilance.

Parents can also take precautionary action to get children always wear life jacket while playing near the pond. Make sure children do not have access to the pool when the parents are not around them. Even these precautions should still be done when the pool is not filled with water or for a smaller pond.
