[Health Knowledge] Want to Fit? Do not Just Choose Fruits and Vegetables. Fruits and vegetables are a source of foods rich in vitamins and fiber. However, two types of eating these foods alone will not be enough to warrant a person perform activities of daily optimally.


"The man to be healthy and fit not only of vegetables and fruits alone," said Dr. Fiastuti Witjaksono, MSc, SpGK, Clinical Nutrition Specialist Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM), in the event a book Peace with cancer surgery, some time ago in Jakarta.


According to him, besides the consumption of fruits and vegetables, the body also needs carbohydrates as a source of energy and protein, which serves to replace damaged cells. Carbohydrate intake can be obtained from rice, bread, corn, and noodles.

While proteins are the side dishes, egg whites, fish, meat, tofu, and tempeh.
"It means that food should be sufficient in number. Must complete (carbohydrates, proteins, fats, minerals, micronutrients)," he added.


In addition, Fiastuti also suggested that eating foods that are still fresh. Fresh here means it is not preserved or continuously heated, especially vegetables. "Because if the vegetables are preserved many times, he will lose vitamins minerals," he explained.

The need for fat, up Fiastuti, also still must be considered for the body's metabolic processes. According to him, not all fat is harmful and dangerous to the body. "Fat is also no good," he said.

According Fiastuti, fat can be grouped into three types, namely saturated fat (animal), monounsaturated fats (nuts) and polyunsaturated fats (fish oil).

"From each respective three, we only need about 10 to 15 percent of total calories we need per day," he explained.

He added that the fat is also very important to keep the capsule cells (lipid bilayer) is always in good condition. Because, according Fiastuti, if the lipid bilayer is not a good person, would make the cells become fragile. In fact, a strong cell is needed for survival.
